Job Description

Role title: Accessible IT Support Worker
Reporting to: CEO
Weekly Hours: 17.5 hours per week (Flexible days – onsite & home visits)
Annual Salary: £13,500 - £14,560 pro-rata
Holiday: 25 days per annum pro rata
Benefits: 5% Pension, Parking, Personal Development
Contract Type: 3 year with possible extension

Job Purpose:

 To provide IT training and advice and guidance to visually impaired people in their homes or at the Guardian Centre
 To advise and train visually impaired people in the use of specialist accessible software and specialist features of main stream technology
 To manage, develop and deliver the Train the trainer scheme to volunteers
 To maintain sufficient volunteers to meet the increased digital demand

1. To assess and train blind and partially sighted people in the use of accessibility software and technology
2. To provide general IT training with the aim of assisting clients to achieve personal goals (e.g. enable access to smart phones and tablets and the use of email to keep in touch with relatives or do online shopping)
3. To manage and train volunteers in accessible technology (Train the Trainer) enabling them to provide assistive support to clients
4. To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of specialist access software and standard accessibility features
5. Providing demonstrations of the equipment in the community such as Libraries, Community Centers, Voluntary organisations and Local Authority bases
6. Demonstrate and facilitate access to Alexa to increase daily living independence and reduce isolation
7. To provide general IT support to staff and maintain charity website
8. To support colleagues and members demonstrating equipment (e.g. at Awareness presentation events)
9. To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the functions and capabilities of the full range of IT devices (e.g. smartphones, tablets, laptops and PCs)

Person Specification


• Excellent IT Skills and a good understanding of Windows Operating System and Office 365 applications including Outlook, Word ,Excel. Also Zoom and Teams
• Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to explain complex technical information using straightforward, accessible language
• Website development


• To be conversant with the mechanics of a PC, and basic PC maintenance and to have an understanding of Networks and IP addressing
• Current assistive technology certification in JAWS, NVDA, Zoom Text or similar
• Experience with Teaching IT Previous experience of working in the voluntary or sight loss sector
• Knowledge of the impact of visual impairment

• Able to understand and make a commitment to a code of confidentiality.
• A self-motivated and confident person able to relate well to people with a visual impairment, older people and those from diverse cultures
• Able to meet the needs of people with a visual impairment
• Good team working skills
• Ability to handle difficult situations calmly
• Give IT support & train staff
• Good verbal and oral communications skills with the ability to explain technical processes to a variety of people. For supporting customers on mobile phones, tablets, Alexa etc


• Experience of working closely with people from all sectors of the community

• Confident and proficient with I.T. packages including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook and the Internet
